Kimmie Parker is a designer, writer, artist, humanist, and educator. Her current research activities are motivated by a desire to make connections: between theory and form, process and outcome, people and communities. Consequently, she uses design methodologies as a tool for cultural understanding, and technology as a medium.
Kimmie is Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Oakland University. She also serves as Director of Oakland’s Center for Public Humanities and as Director of the Graphic Design program. As part of her work with the Center for Public Humanities, she has been exploring the role design can play in the way histories are presented and preserved. She is also Treasurer of DesignInquiry, a non-profit educational organization that explores pressing issues in design and culture.
Kimmie received her MFA in 2D Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art, her BFA in Graphic Design from Wayne State University, and her BS from Michigan State University in Merchandising and General Business.
