Teenage Engineering’s OP-Z and its Topology of Sound and Visuals
Abstract: This short paper explores the philosophical relationship between sound and motion design as it relates to Teenage Engineering’s OP-Z. This “multi-tool” is capable of simultaneously producing electronic music and controlling animated visuals, embodying a liminal, interdisciplinary space between performance art, music composition, and motion design. Exploring these multi-modal outputs through the lens of artist/critic Dan Graham’s topological metaphor allows for new perspectives of the relationship between sound and visuals within motion design.
